How to Build the Best Wedding Website

Why Wedding Websites Matter More Than You Think
Your wedding website isn’t just a formality — it’s the first impression your guests get of your celebration, and one of the most helpful tools you have to keep everyone informed. But most couples either overdo it or leave out the important stuff.
Here’s how to build a wedding website that’s clear, stylish, guest-friendly, and packed with all the right info — including tips on what to skip, what to say, and how to make it feel like you.
🧠 Step 1: Pick the Right Website Builder
There are a lot of free tools out there, but most planners (including me!) recommend Minted for a few key reasons:
Clean, mobile-friendly designs
Easy-to-edit pages and RSVP tracking
Seamless integration with invitations
Free matching designs with their planner-approved paper goods
Bonus: I’m a Minted planner partner, so if you’re working with me, I can help guide your setup and get you access to extra perks.
🗂️ Step 2: Add These Pages (And Don’t Skip the Details)
📍 Your Wedding Info Page
Date, time, location (including ceremony + reception)
Google Maps link
Dress code
Rain plan (if applicable)
🛏️ Travel + Lodging
Hotel blocks with full names and booking links
Discount codes + deadlines
Nearest airports
Notes on transportation or shuttles
💌 RSVP Page
Include a deadline (and stick to it)
Ask about dietary restrictions or song requests here
Use the automatic tracking if you're using Minted or Zola
📆 Weekend Schedule (if you have one)
Welcome party? Brunch? Include all events guests are invited to
Clarify who’s invited to what (don’t be vague)
Add timing + attire notes for each event
💡 FAQ Page
Is the ceremony outdoors?
Are kids welcome?
Is there parking?
Should I bring a gift to the wedding?
Will the reception be inside or outside?
💍 Your Story / About the Couple
This one’s totally optional, but cute when done right. Keep it light — 2 short paragraphs max.
🖼️ Step 3: Make It Visually You
Choose a design that matches your wedding vibe — not just what’s trendy
Add 2–3 of your engagement photos (no more than that!)
Stick to 1–2 fonts and a simple color palette
Avoid overly busy designs or too many animations
Pro Tip: If your invitations are from Minted, you can use the same design for your website and keep everything cohesive.
❌ Step 4: Avoid These Common Mistakes
Forgetting to add a rain plan or shuttle details
Having too much text — your guests will skim, not scroll
Forgetting to set your website to private (especially if you have sensitive guest info)
Adding a “registry” link too soon (wait until you're sure it's done)
🧭 What I Tell My Couples
If you’re building your site on Minted, I recommend filling in the basics and then letting me review it. I’ll help you:
Add missing info your guests will actually ask
Double-check timelines and wording
Add clarity where needed (especially for multi-day weddings)
Wedding websites don’t need to be overcomplicated. They just need to be useful.
